Thyme (Borneol) organic

Borneol thyme is not a chemotype of common thyme. Thymus satureioides is a separate species, native to North Africa. Its oil is led by borneol, an alcohol, rather than by the phenols that dominate Thyme (Carvacrol) (No. 2811).

01 · Origin

A low, woody thyme of the mountains and dry hillsides of Morocco. This oil is distilled from the flowering plant, wild-crafted and certified organic.

02 · Chemistry

Borneol leads, with alpha-terpineol and camphene. Beta-caryophyllene adds a woody note. Carvacrol, linalool and thymol are present in smaller proportion and give the familiar thyme warmth without the intensity of a phenol-led oil.

03 · In Practice

Warm, herbaceous and slightly camphoraceous, with a resinous woody base. A middle note. Diffusion, massage blends and bath preparations. A milder entry point into the thyme range than the phenolic types. Blends with rosemary, lavender, pine, lemon, eucalyptus, cedarwood and marjoram.
