Rosemary is not one oil. The same species gives cineole, camphor and verbenone chemotypes, and the terroir largely decides which. A rosemary from French highland ground sits between the cineole oils of North Africa and the camphor-rich oils of Spain.

01 · Origin

An evergreen shrub of the mint family, native to the dry hills and coasts of the Mediterranean. This oil is distilled in France from the flowering plant, wild-crafted under organic certification (DE-ÖKO-007).

02 · Chemistry

1,8-Cineole leads, with alpha- and beta-pinene and camphene close behind. Borneol and borneone, the ketone also known as camphor, are present in useful proportion and give the oil more body than a pure cineole type. Comparison with Rosemary, Cineol (No. 2591) and Rosemary, Verbenone (No. 2620) shows the chemotype range within one species.

03 · In Practice

Fresh, herbaceous and camphoraceous, with a woody, resinous dry-down. A top-to-middle note. Diffusion, massage blends, bath preparations, hair-care formulation and olfactory study. Used at moderate dilution. Blends with lavender, cedarwood, frankincense, peppermint, lemon, thyme and basil.

General information: For external use only. Dilute before applying to skin. Keep away from heat and sunlight. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
