Helichrysum italicum is often assumed to give one consistent oil wherever it grows. It does not. Balkan populations along the Adriatic tend towards a pinene and curcumene profile, while Corsican oils are known for higher neryl acetate. Origin shapes the chemistry as much as the species.
01 · Origin
Immortelle grows on stony, sun-baked limestone across the western Balkans and the Adriatic islands, family Asteraceae. The silver foliage and bright yellow flower clusters hold their form long after cutting. This oil is distilled from the blossoms in Bosnia-Herzegovina, from certified organic cultivation.
02 · Chemistry
Alpha-pinene leads here, with gamma-curcumene close behind. Neryl acetate is present but no longer dominant. Italicene, a sesquiterpene characteristic of the species, and limonene complete the profile. Set beside Helichrysum Italicum, Superior (No. 1597), this oil shows the regional shift clearly.
03 · In Practice
Fresh and resinous on opening, then curry-like, herbaceous and honeyed, with a dry hay note in the dry-down. A middle note. Facial oils, skincare formulation, massage blends and natural perfumery, at low concentration. Blends with lavender, cistus, frankincense, geranium, bergamot, clary sage and sandalwood.
General information: For external use only. Dilute before applying to skin. Keep away from heat and sunlight. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
