Eucalyptus is a genus of several hundred species, and the oils differ markedly. Eucalyptus radiata, the narrow-leaved peppermint, is softer and sweeter than Eucalyptus globulus (No. 1370), with a gentler camphoraceous note. The two are not substitutes.
01 · Origin
A tall tree of the myrtle family, Myrtaceae, native to south-eastern Australia. This oil is distilled in South Africa from the leaves of wild-crafted organic trees, where the species has become established.
02 · Chemistry
1,8-cineole is the leading constituent. Limonene and alpha-terpineol carry more weight here than in globulus, and they soften the profile. Alpha-pinene adds a fresh resinous top.
03 · In Practice
Fresh, camphoraceous and lightly citrus, with a sweet woody dry-down. A top note. Diffusion, massage blends, bath preparations and room sprays, particularly where globulus would dominate. Blends with lavender, tea tree, rosemary, peppermint, lemon, pine and frankincense.
General information: For external use only. Dilute before applying to skin. Keep away from heat and sunlight. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
