Artemisia annua has a reputation as something of a wonder plant which has a distinguished history in traditional medicine having been used successfully for conditions ranging from malaria, wound disinfection, joint and skin problems.
The main components of the essential oil are artemisia ketone, 1,8 cineol, alpha-Pinene, but their relative composition appears to vary considerably depending on geographic and climatic conditions. There is a lot of research on the anti-microbial effects of this oil.
