About the Plant
The prickly pear cactus belongs to the genus Opuntia and is part of the cactus family. Originally native to Latin America, it now also thrives in Australia, South Africa, and Southern Europe. The tree's figs are oval, with a yellow to reddish spiny skin. The inner pulp can be processed into juice or jam.
The prickly pear cactus holds significant value among the indigenous peoples of Latin America. They use the fruit, flowers, and stems as remedies for gastrointestinal issues.
Oil Extraction
After harvesting the fruit, the seeds are separated from the pulp, dried, and then pressed into a high-quality, valuable base oil. The extraction process is labor-intensive and yields are low, making the oil quite expensive.
Properties
Prickly pear seed oil is rich in linoleic acid, oleic acid, palmitic acid, and accompanying fats like phytosterols and tocopherols. Thanks to these components, the oil has anti-inflammatory, skin-regenerating, moisturizing, and skin-tightening properties. It has a light texture and is quickly absorbed.
Uses
This precious prickly pear seed oil is suitable as an organic cosmetic raw material for making body care products.
