Katafray (Organic)

The genus name Cedrelopsis suggests a cedar. It is not one. The name means resembling Cedrela, itself a tropical American genus of the mahogany family sold as Spanish cedar. Katafray belongs to neither the true cedars nor the conifers.

01 · Origin

Cedrelopsis grevei is a tree endemic to the dry forests of southern and western Madagascar. The bark has a long place in local practice. This oil is distilled from the bark of certified organic trees in Madagascar.

02 · Chemistry

A sesquiterpene oil. Ishwarane leads, with beta-elemene, alpha-copaene, delta-cadinene and the alpha- and beta-selinenes following. The absence of a significant monoterpene top gives a slow-opening oil with good tenacity on a blotter.

03 · In Practice

Woody, warm and dry, with a peppery and faintly herbaceous character. A middle to base note. Massage blends, skincare formulation and natural perfumery, where it extends woods and resins. Blends with ravensara, frankincense, vetiver, cedarwood, ginger, black pepper and geranium.
