Helichrysum Italicum Essential Oil (Organic)

Helichrysum is a genus of some six hundred species. The oil sold under the name is frequently one of the others. Helichrysum italicum is defined by its chemistry, and its markers are specific: neryl acetate and the italidiones, a group of diketones found in this species and almost nowhere else.

01 · Origin

A low perennial of dry Mediterranean ground. This oil is distilled in France from certified organic cultivation. The flowers keep their colour long after cutting, which gave the plant its common names, immortelle and everlasting.

02 · Chemistry

Neryl acetate leads the profile. Gamma-curcumene and alpha-pinene follow. The italidiones are present in small proportion and carry the identity of the species. Yield from the flowering tops is low, which places the oil among the costlier singles in any dispensary.

03 · In Practice

Warm, herbaceous and honeyed, with a dry balsamic finish. A middle note in natural perfumery. Used at low concentration in facial oils, massage blends and skincare formulation. Blends with lavender, rose, frankincense, clary sage, sandalwood, cedarwood and cistus.
