Recognized for its straight trunk, conical crown, and slender branches, this pine species features gray-brown bark that becomes fissured with age. The needle-shaped leaves, arranged in five bundles, contribute to its distinct appearance. The cylindrical cones, measuring 8 to 16 cm long, are resinous and slightly curved. Swiss stone pine wood is highly prized for construction and carpentry due to its quality and resistance to decay, while its edible seeds, enclosed in cones, are known as pine nuts and find culinary use.
