Spikenard Essential Oil (Organic)

Nardostachys jatamansi

One of the rarest oils in aromatherapy, our Organic Spikenard is wild-crafted in the Himalayas and harvested in accordance with CITES sustainability standards.

Deep, earthy and profoundly grounding, Organic Spikenard essential oil is distilled from the roots of Nardostachys jatamansi, a rare Himalayan plant that grows in the high-altitude regions of Nepal. This precious oil has been valued for centuries in Ayurvedic tradition and sacred perfumery, where its rich, balsamic aroma was associated with meditation, devotion and inner stillness.

Steam distilled from the carefully harvested roots of organically grown plants, Spikenard releases a deep woody fragrance with warm, sweet and slightly musky undertones. Its powerful base note makes it highly prized in natural perfumery and deeply calming aromatic blends.

Historically known simply as “Nard,” this oil appears in ancient texts and rituals as a symbol of honour and reverence. Today it remains one of the most treasured oils for grounding aromatic practices and contemplative rituals.

Aromatic Profile

A powerful base note that anchors perfumes and meditative blends.

Traditional & Aromatic Uses

Spikenard has long been appreciated for its grounding and centering qualities.

It is commonly used:

• in diffuser blends designed to create calm, meditative spaces
• in natural perfumery as a deep base note
• in massage blends intended to encourage relaxation

Botanical Background

Nardostachys jatamansi is a flowering alpine plant native to the Himalayan mountain regions of Nepal and northern India. The aromatic oil is obtained by steam distillation of the plant’s roots, which develop their rich fragrance as they mature in the harsh high-altitude environment.

Because the species is considered vulnerable in the wild, responsible harvesting and sustainable cultivation practices are essential. Oshadhi works with trusted partners in Nepal who harvest the roots carefully and support local distillation communities while protecting the surrounding ecosystem.
