Frankincense, Holy Sacra

Holy Frankincense (Boswellia sacra)

We cannot hide our pleasure in telling our Oshadhi friends around the world that we have found and made available a very precious and wonderful scented oil, the Boswellia sacra, from the mountains and valleys of the Dhofar area in Oman.

This Frankincense oil (white) is from Boswellia sacra trees growing in the north and eastern part of Dhofar, southern Oman, in the area known for Howjary Resin, considered to be the most subtle and beautiful of all the Omani Frankincenses.

The Howjary Resin, (which is often called “white”) tends to come from areas to the north of Salalah, from Jufa up to Hasik, and including Jebel Samhan. It’s considered beautiful by the omanis for it’s look, white, clean, green, sculpted silver pieces. This un-matched and very pure resin has a sweet scent and green herbal note, weaving throught the pin-like base with a slight citrus fragrance.

Since long ago, the Boswellia sacra has been rec-ognized as the most beautiful and desirable of frankincenses, a truly sacred gem of creation.

In the middle ages, its price was estimated to be 15 times more than the equivalent Frankincense of Somalia, which itself was as valuable as gold. If today, the prices are more reasonable, it stays 4 to 5 times more expensive than the other varieties of the same family.

Properties of Holy Frankincense

Boswellia sacra possesses unique fragrances that make you aware of the power of Frankincense and its place in our connexion with the Gods. Also called Pure Frankincense, or Male Frankincense due to its masculine character, (in comparison to Myrrh, a more feminine Frankincense), Boswellia sacra is the biblical Frankincense by excellence. It was used throughout the ancient and medieval world, in worship rituals and prayers to promote the feeling of unity with God, elevated thoughts, and the requests towards the divine.

In a more conventional use, Boswellia sacra has that power to uplift human awareness and balance the emotional side of man. It has a soothing effect without causing tiredness, but supporting clarity of thought. It is also able to influence depressions in a positive way and to give relief from anxieties.

On the spiritual side the concept of the substance protecting man from materialistic temptations, uplifting the consciousness and dissolving subconscious stress makes sense and allows one to understand why it was is used so much for ritual purposes.
